THE Heathcote Film Festival has officially opened submissions for its 14th annual celebration of storytelling on screen

The festival is set to take place on 28 and 29 August 2026.

Filmmakers from across Australia and beyond are invited to submit their work for consideration in this year’s program.

The festival committee is seeking short films of no more than 15 minutes.

“All genres are welcome; from drama and documentary to animation, comedy, experimental work, and everything in between,” said Duncan McGann from the festival committee.

“The event has always championed diverse voices and fresh perspectives, making it an ideal platform for emerging and established filmmakers alike.”

In addition to welcoming filmmakers of all experience levels, the committee is eager to receive entries from emerging Australian creators who are still early in their careers.

“Filmmakers with fewer than three completed short films are encouraged to submit their work and take advantage of the festival’s supportive, community–minded platform designed to help new voices gain visibility and confidence,” said Mr McGann.

Submissions will be accepted via the ‘Film Freeway’ platform.

Filmmakers can upload their projects, review entry guidelines, and learn more about the festival’s selection process.

“Now entering its 14th year, the Heathcote Film Festival has become a popular regional event,” said Mr McGann.

“It draws audiences who appreciate bold storytelling and the unique atmosphere of a community-driven celebration of cinema.

“The 2026 edition promises another vibrant program of screenings, conversations, and creative exchange.
