Seven-star tips for new-home builders

A FREE information session next Thursday evening will aim to explain practical ways in which residents can make both new and older homes more energy efficient.

The session led by the City of Greater Bendigo is suitable for people planning to construct a new home and are therefore required to achieve a seven-star energy rating under the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022, which Victoria adopted on 1 May 2024.

It is also relevant for existing homeowners who would like to reduce their energy wastage and lower their running costs.

A number of experts will be in attendance to speak about the various options available, with a question and answer forum to follow afterwards.

City strategic planning manager Anthony Petherbridge said the session will be invaluable for homeowners planning to build a new home and for those seeking effective environmental improvements to an existing home.

“With rising energy costs, this session offers many simple but cost-effective actions that help make your home more energy efficient,” he said.

“Heating, cooling, hot water, appliances, cooking, lighting, home entertainment and the building itself all contribute to energy wastage, and that leads to constant high running costs.

“This is an opportunity to make practical improvements to be more energy efficient at home all year round.”

The environmentally sustainable design session takes place from 5.15pm to 6.30pm (for a 5.30pm start) next Thursday, 23 July, at the La Trobe Art Institute, 121 View Street.
