Take part in flood planning

August 5, 2021 BY

Residents can have their say on the City of Greater Bendigo's flood planning.

THE first in-person workshop for the City of Greater Bendigo’s Finding Flood Solutions project is planned for next Tuesday.

The event aims to give residents, property owners, businesses and organisations the chance to have their say and find out how flooding may impact homes and the community.

The City has recognised central Bendigo as a particularly flood-prone area with large rainfall events capable of causing creeks and waterways to overflow.

Major storms in 2010, 2011 and 2016 caused significant floods and the municipality is aware of the risk of them worsening due to extreme whether events caused by climate change.

The community discussion is being coupled with an in-depth technical review aimed at guiding infrastructure developments to protect central Bendigo from floods.

As part of the review, specialist engineers will be updating current flood data and applying new methods and technology to assess the risks.

The first in-person workshop is on Tuesday, 10 August from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the Capital Theatre.

An online zoom session will take place the following week, with two more sessions planned for November and in-formal pop-ups tomorrow at 10am in the library and Saturday at 10am at Lake Weeroona.
