The great regional shift

How a family craving a sense of community and extra space made their tree change dreams come true in Axe Creek.

A local family who recently made a tree change to Axe Creek are giving others inspiration to do the same with Catriona Rowntree on Chanel Nine’s Country House Hunter’s Australia, showcasing the Metricon home, as an example of what real estate is on offer in rural Australia, in an upcoming episode.

It is no secret that regional Victoria is continuing to gain popularity as more families and couples opt for extra space and a deeper sense of community, a trend that is reflected in the popularity of Country House Hunter’s Australia.

Robyn and Shane Eames and their two young children are one of the many families who have chosen to build their dream home in regional Victoria, seeking out the picturesque Axe Creek as their new community.

The dream of building their family’s very own home on a sizeable piece of land was something they had longed for, with the draw of kangaroos in the backyard and the dream of watching their children play amongst nature beckoning, the family took the leap.

Reflecting on the change they have made and with the finishing touches on their Davenport 34 now complete and shown in an upcoming episode of Country House Hunter’s Australia, Robyn describes what she loves the most about where she now lives.

“It is the open spaces, the everchanging landscape, the beautiful little community of neighbours we have dotted along our street and the environment our children get to grow up in,” she said.

“We couldn’t dream of a better place to raise a family. The way the kids play has really changed so much since living here.

“The reliance on technology just isn’t there now, they love playing out in the dirt and riding their bikes up and down the driveway, it is beautiful to watch.

“We truly have the best of both worlds here; we’re only five minutes away from shops, schools, and doctors in Strathfieldsaye but when we’re at home it feels like we could be out in the middle of nowhere.”

“As soon as we saw the Davenport 34 floorplan, we knew we could stop our search. It was almost as though this home had been designed entirely with our family in mind.”

Metricon Regional North manager, Tania Tonks, witnesses firsthand how much families are relishing in the more laid-back existence that regional Victoria has on offer.

“we’re now seeing families who made the move during COVID now fully immersed and engaged members of the local community,” she said.

“When we first met Robyn and Shane we knew they had dreams of having more space for the family and so being able to build their dream home here has been something we really are proud of. Working closely with them and our trusted team of local suppliers and trades has well and truly delivered something that we are all so proud of.”
