Spirit’s on the road again to Geelong
Tip-off for the Bendigo and Geelong showdown will be at 4pm.
Round 12 tipped off last Wednesday at Bendigo’s Red Energy Arena where Spirit took on Perth Lynx.
The ladder-leading Spirit will be wary of a Geelong line-up which began last round by scoring a six-point victory on the Southside Flyers court and then went down to Perth, 80-77 in Geelong.
In round two, Bendigo outpointed Geelong, 95-78 at Red Energy Arena in West Bendigo.
Top performers for Spirit were Sami Whitcomb, 28 points and seven rebounds; Casey Samuels, 15 points and six rebounds; Marianna Tolo 10 points and seven rebounds.
Players to watch for Geelong include Keely Froling, Haley Jones, Gemma Potter and Jazmin Shelley.
Spirit headed to Mildura for last Sunday’s clash with Sydney Flames in Country Road Round.
Bendigo led 45-34 at half-time and then dominated the third quarter, 24-14.
The Flames fought back to win the fourth term, 14-11, but it was Spirit which led 80-62 at the final buzzer.
A formidable Spirit attack includes Paris Olympic bronze medallists Sami Whitcomb and Marianna Tolo, captain Kelsey Griffin, Veronica Burton, Casey Samuels and WNBL games record-holder Kelly Wilson.
An outstanding season for Whitcomb rolled on as she racked up 18 points and six rebounds.
Coming matches for the Kennedy Kereama-coached Spirit include Adelaide Lightning at Red Energy Arena on January 24, and then in Geelong on January 29.
