ALSTONVILLE Agricultural Society is gearing up to host a rodeo spectacular, with the Bulls, Broncs and Barrels event gaining momentum for its second major outing.

This year it will be held on Saturday 25 April with a range of events, including steer wrestling, saddle bronc, rope and tie, and multiple bull riding competitions at the showground.

Rodeo events have grown in popularity across the region, with many of the visiting riders coming from the professional ranks.

Agricultural Society secretary Faye Wilson said the event highlights what the showground has to offer.

“After a return to Alstonville Showgrounds last year the rodeo spectacular returned to the main show ring to allow for more spectators to get right in on the action,” she said. “With the added thrill of barrel racing and bucking broncs there is something for everyone.

“The community support shown through local business sponsorship is the foundation to making these events happen.

“We look forward to bringing people to the plateau from afar to see what Alstonville has to offer.”

The event will be run under the National Rodeo Association, with cowboys and cowgirls expected to attend from all over NSW and Queensland.

They compete for points to add to their yearly tally towards the National Finals Championship.

There will be a bar and barbecue at the event, with food trucks, live music and markets with country western-themed stalls.

People attending are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of the event at alstonvilleshow.com.

Tickets will also be available at the gate from 4pm.
