Country and Western Hoedown to help breathe new life into community events

THE Newrybar Community Hall Country and Western Hoedown is set to bring the community together for a night of music and entertainment while also supporting plans for upgrades at the facility.

The event will be held on Saturday 27 June and is part of a broader push to breathe new life into the village.

Plans for the hall include a proposed verandah extension and a new downstairs event space.

Event organiser and Newrybar Hall president Kurt Rettenmaier said it was part of an overall push to better serve the community.

“We’ve put forward a concept to council that really looks at how we make the hall more usable for the whole community,” he said.

“It’s about improving what’s already here so it can serve more people, more often.”

The hoedown will feature live music from Cowboy Simple Music, with a full country and western atmosphere designed to encourage dancing and community participation.

There will be a western barbecue, bucking bronco rides, a silent auction and a range of themed activities.

“We’re really leaning into that country feel,” Rettenmaier said.

“It’s meant to be fun, relaxed and something that feels welcoming for everyone who comes along.

“We wanted to create something where people don’t just come and sit, they get involved.

“That’s when you really start building community again.”

Rettenmaier said the response so far has shown strong local support for both the event and the broader vision for the hall precinct.

He said ticket sales could reach 250 and put a spotlight on Newrybar with other events in the future.

“There’s a real sense that people want to see this place thrive,” he said.

“Events like this help show what’s possible. “They bring people together and remind us why these places matter.”
