Lighting up the night at Goonellabah FC
THE Goonellabah Football Club will soon install new field lighting, uisng a $94,776 grant from the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants program.
Jeff Wingfield from Goonellabah FC said the club would be able to complete its lighting upgrade with four new lighting towers, which will provide a total of six at Weston Park.
“The improved lighting will ensure it easily meets the lux rating for night games and is important for training too,” Wingfield said.
“This is the third time the club has applied for this grant funding, and I’m hoping the club can get the lighting installed before the next season.”
Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin said the club would use the funds to install modern and environmentally sustainable LED lights.
“This is wonderful news for the club, which has hundreds of players in its Goonellabah Hornets teams ranging from the six-year-olds up to the senior teams,” Saffin said.
The funds were provided through Clubgrants Category 3, which re-invests profits from gaming machines in registered clubs into community projects.
NSW Minister for Racing and Gaming David Harris said the grants supported local communities in creating or improving facilities that boost community spirit and increase health and wellbeing through participation in sport, recreation, the arts, volunteering, and preparing for natural disasters.
“We received a large number of worthy projects for consideration, and I congratulate those who have been successful and look forward to seeing the work they can undertake to benefit communities,” Harris said.
Applications for the next grant round, open to arts and culture, community infrastructure, disaster readiness, and sport and recreation categories, will open on November 24.
