Man charged after allegedly running over two men

A man been charged after and alleged hit and run and assault in the state’s north.

A MAN has been charged after two men were allegedly run over by a car during a violent incident at Coorabell.

Emergency services were called to a property on Fowlers Lane about 6.20am on March 20 following reports two people had been struck by a vehicle.

Police said the two men, aged 38 and 54, were allegedly run over, leaving the older man trapped underneath the car.

“Police will allege, the driver exited his vehicle and strangled the 38-year-old man, before driving from the scene,” a NSW Police statement said.

A passerby provided first aid until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived.

The 54 year old man was treated for significant facial and upper body injuries and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The 38 year old man was treated for head injuries and taken to Tweed Valley Hospital in a serious condition.

Police arrested a 41 year old man a short time later at Mullumbimby and took him to Byron Bay Police Station.

Officers seized the vehicle for forensic examination.

The man was charged with two counts of wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and is due to appear before the Bail Division Court on March 21.
