Northern Rivers finalists named in record-breaking NSW Tourism Awards

THE Northern Rivers has produced a strong field of finalists in the 2025 NSW Tourism Awards, with local operators recognised across attractions, events, eco-tourism, accommodation, marketing and business services.

More than 230 nominations were received across the state, with 125 finalists announced this week — the highest number in the program’s history.

Crystal Castle & Shambhala Gardens and the Northern Rivers Rail Trail were shortlisted in the Attractions category.

Bluesfest Byron Bay, the Lismore Lantern Parade and Savour the Tweed were named as finalists in the Events category.

Ecoasis and Vision Walks – Eco Tours were recognised in Eco Tourism, with Vision Walks also named in Tours & Activities alongside Better by Bike, Cape Byron Kayaks, the Northern Rivers Rail Trail and Soul Surf School.

Ballina Visitor Information Centre was named a finalist in the Visitor Information category.

The Tweed Tourism Company was shortlisted in the Marketing category.

Contained in Nimbin Accommodation, Tasman Holiday Parks – North Star and The Health Lodge were all recognised in the Accommodation and Event Venues category.

Destination Research & Development was named in the Tourism Business Services category.

NSW Tourism Association CEO Natalie Godward said the results reflected the strength and commitment of the sector.

“We are incredibly proud to reveal this year’s finalists, representing tourism businesses and individuals from every corner of our state,” she said.

“This year’s awards are coming off the back of a record result at the 2024 Australian Tourism Awards, where nine NSW-based operators took out a podium placement.”

She said the inclusion of North Coast Regional Tourism Awards finalists, thanks to a new partnership, had helped broaden the field.

“We are delighted about this new partnership providing greater opportunity for North Coast operators to enter the awards which is a great result.”

NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper said the record-breaking year showed the importance of tourism to the state’s economy.

“Tourism is a 50 billion dollar industry in NSW and a major driver of jobs, growth and opportunity,” he said.

“The finalists represent the very best of our state, setting benchmarks of excellence and demonstrating the important role tourism plays in strengthening local communities.”

The winners will be announced at the NSW Tourism Gala on Thursday, November 27 at Waterview in Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park.

Destination NSW is the major sponsor of this year’s awards.
