Northern Rivers motorists among millions to receive $100 rego discount

NORTHERN Rivers motorists will be among millions of vehicle owners to receive a $100 discount on vehicle registration as a statewide cost-of-living measure begins rolling out.

The one-off saving will automatically be applied when eligible privately owned vehicles are due for registration, with motorcyclists receiving an $80 discount.

Registration renewal notices are issued about six weeks before payment is due, meaning drivers with September renewals should begin receiving notices with the discount applied in the coming weeks.

The NSW Government said the measure would benefit the owners of around 4.4 million vehicles across the state.

For drivers across the Northern Rivers, where many residents rely on private vehicles for work, education, health appointments and everyday travel, the discount is expected to provide some relief from the costs of vehicle ownership.

The saving will apply automatically when an eligible vehicle is due for registration, when a new vehicle is registered in NSW, or when an eligible unregistered vehicle is re-registered.

Minister for roads and regional transport Jenny Aitchison said the discount would help ease pressure on household budgets.

“I am pleased to announce that from today, motorists will start receiving rego notices with $100 deducted for privately owned light vehicles, and an $80 discount for motorcyclists,” Aitchison said.

“The Minns Labor Government is helping ease cost-of-living pressures by putting money back into the pockets of millions of NSW drivers.”

Minister for customer service and digital government Jihad Dib said transport costs continue to place pressure on families.

“The cost of getting around is putting pressure on home budgets, this is about putting money back into people’s pockets so it can be spent where it’s needed most,” Dib said.

The registration discount is part of a broader NSW Government cost-of-living package, which includes a $50 weekly toll cap for 12 months and a 12-month freeze on Opal fares.
