GIRLS across the Far North Coast rugby union catchment area can register for the new Our Turn camp aimed at growing female participation across the state.
The camp will be held at Crozier Field in Lismore on Sunday, February 22.
It is designed to build confidence, connection and core rugby skills with support from NSW Rugby coaches and local development officers.
Female participation manager Linda Hutton said the continued growth of the camps highlights a strong demand for opportunities for girls in regional areas.
“These camps continue to grow because the need is real,” Hutton said.
“Girls in regional NSW deserve the same access to programs that build their confidence, develop their skills and connect them with others.
“It’s about more than rugby, it’s about confidence, connection and community.”
“Our regional and metro communities are full of talent, passion and potential. We want girls across NSW to see that they belong in the game.”
The Far North Coast Rugby Union competition has supported the growth of the women’s game, running a women’s 10-a-side competition that expands each season and fields a representative team at the NSW Country Championships.
At school level, Ballina Coast High School has also invested in girls’ rugby through its dedicated academy, offering regular training and competition throughout the year.
The Lismore camp is open to girls aged 12 to 17 of all skill levels. Participants will learn all elements of the game, including tackling techniques and individual skill development.
The camp is supported by the federal government’s Play Our Way grant program, which aims to increase opportunities for women and girls to access, participate in and remain involved in sport and physical activity.
“We’re giving them the tools and the opportunity to shine,” Hutton said.
“When girls feel confident in themselves, they play better, lead stronger and inspire others to join them.”
