POLICE say the discovery of human remains in Ballina and a vehicle recovered from the Richmond River are linked, as forensic testing continues.
A Honda CR-V was recovered from the river on Friday and is now undergoing forensic examination.
NSW Police said the vehicle and the remains, found earlier in the week, form part of the same investigation.
“The incidents are linked, though the DNA results haven’t come back yet, and we are awaiting those,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
“The remains are undergoing forensic examination to determine the identity of the deceased, and police continue to await the outcome of the analysis.”
Police have previously appealed for information about missing Ballina woman Cicily Spiers, who was last seen about 4pm on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
Officers were notified of concerns for her welfare and commenced inquiries into her whereabouts.
Emergency services were called to the Richmond River near Cherry Street about 3.50pm on Monday, February 16, following reports of possible human remains.
Police established a crime scene on the northern bank of the river and transported the remains for forensic examination.
Investigations are continuing.
