THE Northern Rivers Titans will host Newcastle in a home semi final of the NSW Country Rugby League Championships at Crozier Field in Lismore.
The open men’s side is aiming for a second straight grand final appearance after a narrow loss to the same opponent at this stage last year.
Northern Rivers advanced to the semi finals with a convincing 42 to 14 win over the North Coast Bulldogs.
Coach Wayne Forbes said much of the squad had remained together while younger players had strengthened the lineup.
Halfback Tahne Robinson and fullback Matt Bollard have been notable additions, while centre Adam Walker continues to perform strongly at representative level.
“We’ve filled the gaps pretty well, mainly with some youth and a bit of a mixture, but the nucleus of the side is the same as last year,” Forbes said.

“Tahne has been a solid player for a long time, and Matt’s inclusion is a reward for his strong performances last year with Murwillumbah.
“Getting a home semi is a big advantage for us, we gave Newcastle a scare last year so hopefully we can repeat that effort and come away with the win.
“Even with a few changes, this group has been on a two year journey, and the players who perform well deserve the opportunities.”
The club’s under 18s side will also feature in semi final action, taking on Illawarra in the Laurie Daley Cup.
Meanwhile, the Titans open women’s team will travel to face Monaro in its semi final.
They progressed after a dominant 44 to 4 win over the Greater Northern Tigers, with captain Raeyah Kapeen scoring four tries.
Centre Sienna Smith and halfback Natalia Hickling each crossed three times as the side piled on tries to seal victory.
