ALSTONVILLE cricketer Georgia Redmayne will be a key figure in the Brisbane Heat rebuild after its disappointing season in the women’s Big Bash League.

Redmayne, 31, has been one of the Heats most consistent players since joining the Twenty20 franchise in 2020.

She has committed to the club until the 2028 season and will become one of its longest-serving players.

The Heat missed out on finals this year after a run of consecutive losses.

Redmayne’s experience in the top order will be crucial in the coming seasons, having scored just over 2,000 runs and taken more than 50 catches at wicket keeper.

“Georgia is the heart of the team in many ways,” Brisbane Heat coach Mark Sorell said.

“She’s an international class player as a wicket keeper and top order batter, and her competitiveness and desire for success drives us in the right direction.”

“Her batting is highly important for us, both as an individual and in building partnerships as we move through key areas of the innings.”

Redmayne grew up playing cricket during her time at Alstonville High School and was one of the only girls in the Far North Coast competition at the time.

She went on to play first-class cricket with the NSW Breakers and Tasmania before landing at Brisbane for the 2020-21 season.

She captained the Queensland team to the Women’s National League and a 50-over title, scoring a century in the final and was named player of the year.

It earned her a national call-up for the Australian squad which hosted a series against India.

She went on to play for Australia A against England A, and was a reserve for the women’s world cup in New Zealand.

Queensland played NSW in the WNCL final last season with Redmayne scoring 97 off 122 balls in a losing effort.

The WBBL final will be played on Saturday, December 13.
