Providing high class facilities for everyone
At the heart of the Geelong Sports Medicine Centre is a desire to provide everyone access to high quality fitness and rehabilitation facilities.
The centre in North Geelong brings together health and fitness with a gymnasium, clinical Pilates and movement studio, hydrotherapy pool and allied healthcare practitioner consulting rooms under the one roof.
These facilities are usually only available to elite athletes, and the business was recognised for their efforts with the Emerging Business Award, sponsored by The Gordon, at the Geelong Business Excellence Awards last year.
Director Emma Jarman said winning the award has been a great confidence boost to the young business.
“It was a testament to the hard work that we’re putting in and that we’re on the right track with what we’re trying to create,” she said.
“Winning the award has been incredible in terms of getting exposure in the Geelong region and giving as a bit of credibility.”
Ms Jarman said their unique business model has impacted other allied health practitioners in the region.
“Since we opened, a lot of other allied health have aligned themselves with a gym or Pilates or another way to do rehab,” she said.
“In the past it was leaving the client by themselves to go off and source their own rehab.”
Looking towards the future, there are plans for the business to expand, however, the focus now is on perfecting their current offering.
“We have big plans and there is some opportunity for expanding different parts of our business,” Ms Jarman said.
“This year our focus is consolidating and making sure all our processes and procedures are right.
“The business awards are really good for that, to see what you’re doing well and what you need to work on.”
Ms Jarman encouraged other businesses to apply for the awards.
“There is some work involved in preparing your submission but the work you have to do is almost a bit of a health check around the business,” she said.
“It gives you a focus to work on your business instead of in it.”
