GBEA winner – Retail Business Award – Mr Brown’s Menswear
With one of Geelong’s oldest retail families at the helm, Mr Brown’s Menswear knows how to provide its customers with a world-class shopping experience.
Established in 1956, the business specialises in suiting for all ages, sizes, and occasions, and has grown over the years to become the largest fashion retailer in Geelong West. The retailer stocks a generous selection of high-quality and stylish ready-to-wear items and offers its customers a variety of services including tailoring, repairs, embroidery, alterations, and suit hire.
To continue to meet the evolving needs of its customer base, Mr Brown’s Menswear has embraced extensive changes in recent years, including renovating its Pakington Street store and implementing a range of innovations and technological improvements to enhance its service delivery.
The business, led by third generation owner Cameron Brown, strives to provide the very best customer service to the local community and develop honest and long-term relationships with its customers. Mr Brown attributes the business’s ability to deliver this to its carefully selected team, as well as strong leaders who actively embody the values the business aspires to uphold and support staff to achieve heights that may have once appeared out of reach.
And, for the second consecutive year, this bespoke approach has earned Mr Brown’s Menswear the Retail Business Award, sponsored by Roderick Insurance Brokers. The award is open to all retail businesses that sell commodities directly to consumers. The retailer was also one of seven businesses shortlisted for the Business of the Year award.
Judge Tina Perfrement said the judging panel was thrilled to present the team at Mr Brown’s Menswear with the award, as the company had “truly excelled” as a retailer.
“Their outstanding ability to learn and adapt is commendable,” Ms Perfrement said.
“By mastering 3D design software for a complex construction project, they have created a successful and accessible space for both staff and customers.
“This company has achieved exceptional financial results, with an impressive return per square metre, showcasing their efficient use of resources and strong alignment with market demands.
“Their innovative marketing strategies – highlighted by a successful VIP event and ground-breaking online engagement – demonstrate a sophisticated approach to building lasting customer relationships and transforming their retail presence.”
Guided by the belief that maintaining strong community relationships is central to the retailer’s long-standing success, the business’s efforts also extend beyond its shopfront. Its team is heavily involved in a number of local projects, and supports several community organisations, events, and schools, including Ashby Primary School, Diversitat, Pako Festa, and The Road Home.
