Through using reimagined career services, DeakinTALENT has been connecting its students with employers for close to a decade, empowering them to enter their next profession with confidence.

Forming in 2015, DeakinTALENT has set out to bridge the gap between university students and employers using 24/7 career management technologies to support its users right through their career journey, from students to alumni.

Offering mentoring, career education, workshops, talent development programs, career resources, employer events and boards, the services are designed to increase the number of work-ready graduates leaving Deakin University.

Professor Jamie Mustard, Deakin’s pro-vice chancellor of graduate employment, said DeakinTALENT’s success has been made possible by the collaborations from local businesses and organisations, including the Geelong Chamber of Commerce, which has helped to embed the service within the community.

“A key part of DeakinTALENT’s success over the years has been the incredible generosity of local businesses and organisations across the region in supporting our students,” he said.

“From providing internships, participating in networking events, workshops and careers expos, site visits and mentoring students starting out in their careers.

This level of support makes a substantial improvement in students’ work-readiness and ultimately securing their dream job upon graduation.”

DeakinTALENT has been awarded the Financial Review Higher Education Award and a Victorian Government International Education Award in 2021, and recognition from the Australian Association of Graduate Employers as the most popular career service between 2017 and 2020.

DeakinTALENT further offers a range of services for all employers free of charge, depending on their needs.

“We have a wealth of expertise within the DeakinTALENT team,” Prof. Mustard said.

“Our people come from a range of backgrounds bringing knowledge and experience from both the graduate recruitment and higher education industries; some have recruited graduates for major employers, some have worked in recruitment agencies and others have extensive experience working with students and graduates.

“Whether you’re a micro, small, medium or large organisation operating locally, nationally or globally within any industry sector, our award-winning recruitment services team can support your recruitment needs.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for employers to access the wealth of talent available at Deakin.”
