Helping families create great camping memories

John Spence was retrenched from his position at a multi-national company and was looking for a new challenge.

He bought a small three-person caravan repair business in Mercer Street, Geelong in 1988 and what is now Prestige Jayco was born.

Over the years, John has built the business up to 55 employees, and offers sales, service and spare parts/caravan accessories on the one site in Newcomb.

He said Prestige Jayco strived to provide the best customer service and help everyone get away on their
own adventure.

“We help people relieve their stress levels! We connect people, we help families create great memories.

“We’re experts in the RV industry and offer a wide range of campers, caravans, and motorhomes to suit all budgets and family sizes.

He said his initial inspiration was to be able “to help people go and see Australia and explore places they had never been to”.

The business, which has experienced continuous sales growth year on year, has been at its home at 182 Bellarine Highway since 1990.

 

It became a Jayco dealership in 1992, with a new sale building constructed in 1994.

Jayco Motorhomes began 2004, a new service department was added in 2010 and a new handover bay for customer deliveries in 2019, and a new workshop is slated to start building this year.

John said the Geelong Chamber of Commerce had provided business support over the years and provided a platform to meet and interact with other Geelong businesses outside of the work environment.

“Geelong Chamber is strong on supporting local businesses, and we enjoy being part of the push to use local business where possible. Geelong Chamber gives local business the opportunity to showcase their businesses to Geelong people and spread the word of what their business is all about.

“We have been involved in the Geelong Chamber Business Excellence Awards a number of times and have benefited from the process of nominating our business for award categories and being part of the judging process and learning from other business nominations.”
