The Fagg brothers bought a property on the corner of Moorabool Street and Barwon Terrace in 1863, which is still owned by Faggs Bros Pty Ltd today.

Fagg’s is the eighth-oldest family business in Australia and is still part owned by a direct descendant of one
of its founders Samuel Fagg.

The business has a long and fascinating history, and is also a progressive business which has a total emphasis on customer service and providing value for its customers.

English brothers Samuel and William Fagg arrived in Geelong in 1852 and first bought into an existing ironmongery business in Pakington Street, Chilwell in 1854 before buying a property on Moorabool Street at the northern end of Barwon Bridge, on the Barwon Terrace corner in 1863, which is still owned by Fagg’s Bros Pty Ltd today.

The business has grown from strength to strength over the years, beginning its association with Mitre 10 in 1964, buying Wallington Mitre 10 in 2011, buying Torquay Mitre 10 in 2014 and acquiring Belmont Timber in 2017.

Fagg’s Mitre 10 and Belmont Timber now consists of four stores – South Geelong, Belmont, Wallington and Torquay – employing about 230 staff across the four sites.

The longest-serving timber and hardware specialist across Geelong, the business covers every aspect of DIY and trades and has a proud history of nurturing its employees to delight customers with their expertise.
