FROM JEWELLERS and artists through to a perfumery and rug designer, Newtown’s Rutland Street is a hive of creatives.
Formerly known as Big Boom Gallery, the Rutland Street Makers have created their own market, with the monthly event bringing them all together.
Returning this Saturday (November1), the makers market is an opportunity for the creatives within the precinct to open their studios and for the community to discover what they do.
Best in Show Photography’s Jane Dunning said they have some great talent within the building and everything is all really high quality and handcrafted.
“Everything will be on display for the market and we’re the perfect one-stop shop for Christmas presents,” she said.
“You can come to the market, and you can come any other day also.”
The Rutland Street Precinct has long been a space for creatives to come together outside of their homes and work in a collaborative environment.
Ms Dunning said it’s the community element of the collective that makes it so great to be a part of.
“It’s about an arts community and I think that’s something Geelong is big on.
“It’s such a beautiful creative space and people seeing that community and supporting it, I think it’s really important rather than the big chains, it’s all handmade and very special.”
The coming market will run at 5 Rutland Street, Newtown from 10am until 2pm.
