THE Nightjar Festival returns to Torquay this summer with two electrifying nights of bold music, creativity and community spirit.

Long celebrated as one of the Surf Coast’s most enjoyable summer traditions, Nightjar is where Australian musicians take centre stage, creators experiment freely and audiences discover something new at every turn.

What sets Nightjar apart is its unmistakable atmosphere. As the sun dips behind the dunes, the festival ignites: food trucks hum with global flavours, boutique bars pour local favourites and roving performers move through the crowd with colour, character and surprise.

It’s a gathering place for young families, holiday-makers, long-time gig-goers and anyone seeking a hit of summer joy.

The music lineup this year is one of Nightjar’s strongest yet, led by two standout Australian acts.

On January 2, the festival launches with a genre-spanning mix of rising and established Australian artists. Laid-back local Albert the Second will open the first night with his signature storytelling style, followed by the incomparable Ajak Kwai, who will elevate the evening with her powerful fusion of South Sudanese funk, blues, and soul — music that moves both heart and body.

Next, the explosive psychedelic grooves of Bananagun take over, bringing their freak-beat energy and adventurous musicianship to the stage.

The evening then culminates with headliners The Slingers, whose nostalgic, cinematic sound has earned them a cult following across the country. Their richly crafted songs promise an unforgettable first-night crescendo. Closing out the night, DJ Adriana steps in with a dance-floor-ready set that keeps the energy burning well into the warm summer air.

On January 9, Nightjar returns with an entirely new flavour. Wild Gloriosa opens with ethereal vocals and emotionally charged indie folk, followed by the moody, poetic storytelling of acclaimed singer-songwriter Jess Ribeiro.

Surf Coast favourites Suneden continue the groove with their signature funk-disco blend that has captivated crowds nationwide. The night’s headline performance comes from Gordi, whose haunting voice and atmospheric songwriting have earned international acclaim. Rounding out the festival, DJ Sunshine lifts the tempo for a high-energy, feel-good finale under the big top.

Across both nights, Nightjar Festival delivers a vibrant blend of local food, community connection and standout Australian talent. It’s not just a night out — it’s a coastal summer ritual. This year, Torquay’s favourite festival is set to shine brighter than ever.
