WOMEN Out Loud isn’t your average health podcast.

It is the first and only women’s health podcast based in Geelong and the Surf Coast, created by women, for women, and nothing is off-limits.

Produced in partnership with Times News Group and recorded at TNG Studios in Torquay, the series delivers unfiltered conversations on the health challenges and realities faced by women of all ages.

The podcast is led by the Surf Coast Women’s Health Group and hosted by GP Dr Niamh Logue, women’s physiotherapist Courtney Weybury, and practice manager and registered nurse Amy McElgunn.

Dr Logue and Ms Weybury are also founders and co-directors of the group, and together the trio bring strong medical backgrounds and frontline experience in women’s health, combining clinical insight with everyday understanding to break the silence around issues often seen as too awkward, too private or too hard to talk about.

“We wanted to create a space where women felt heard, informed and supported,” Dr Logue said.

“For too long, women have had to advocate for themselves during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. This podcast is about changing that.”

This episode dives into practical, relatable topics including pelvic floor health, navigating menopause, postpartum recovery, strength training, medical myths and the complexity of Medicare and bulk billing.

Throughout it all is a consistent theme of empowerment – whether through knowledge, community or care that actually listens.

GP Dr Niamh Logue, women’s physiotherapist Courtney Weybury, and practice manager and registered nurse Amy McElgunn are the three hosts of Women Out Loud.

As a pelvic floor physio, Ms Weybury said many women were surprised to learn their issues are not only common but manageable with the right information and support.

“It’s incredible how many women feel like they’re the only one going through something.

“But when we explain what’s happening and how to manage it, there’s a huge sense of relief. It’s why I do what I do.”

The first episode also pulls back the curtain on the team’s journey of starting a women-led clinic in Jan Juc. Surf Coast Women’s Health Group opened in 2023 and quickly grew thanks to overwhelming community support.

“We never imagined this would happen so fast,” Ms McElgunn said.

“But the need was there. And it came from local women saying ‘We need this, we deserve this’. So we built it.”

Another important focus of the podcast is the role of sport and physical activity in women’s health – especially pelvic floor health and injury prevention.

Ms Weybury said strength training and pelvic awareness were vital for women wanting to stay active throughout life, whether they’re weekend walkers or elite athletes.

The podcast combines clinical insight with everyday understanding to break the silence around issues often seen as too awkward, too private or too hard to talk about.

“Women in sport are often told to just get on with it, even if they’re leaking or in pain.

“But those issues can and should be addressed, and performance can actually improve when they are.”

From teenage girls dropping out of exercise to elite athletes hiding incontinence symptoms, the team says these stories reflect a broader need for education, support and system-wide change.

“Women’s health doesn’t begin and end with childbirth or menopause,” Ms McElgunn said.

“It’s a lifelong journey and it deserves more attention, more education and more investment. That’s what this podcast is about.”
