A MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR upgrade to Queens Park Golf Club is on the horizon.

Details of a proposed $5.3 million redevelopment were revealed during the City of Greater Geelong council’s meeting last week.

Cr Ron Nelson outlined the considerable scale of investment tied to the preferred tender for the facility.

The council voted to start contract negotiations with Clublinks – a leading golf service provider that oversees courses across Australia – after the company was named the preferred operator for the site.

The negotiations are expected to take place over the coming months and have not yet been finalised.

Speaking at the meeting last week, Cr Nelson said the proposal included significant private investment across the site, which he described as “a long time coming” for its members.

“What I like most about this tender is the investment in the site.

“It’s a $2.3 million investment in the course, a $2 million investment in the clubhouse, and a $1 million investment in the driving range.

“I’m sure when word gets out, the members down there will be absolutely ecstatic that finally some investment is coming to this course and this club.

“And the best thing about this investment is that it’s private investment.”

If negotiations are successful, Clublinks would manage Queens Park Golf Club for the next 21 years and deliver upgrades to the 18-hole course, clubhouse and driving range.

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said Clublinks had been selected through a highly competitive tender process.

“Their plans and commitment to facility improvements are great news.

“This is an important next step in the process towards a better Queens Park Golf Club for everyone.

“I look forward to negotiations commencing and more positive news soon.”

Clublinks was first selected as temporary operator for the golf club in 2023.

Clublinks chief executive Anthony Lawrence said the organisation was pleased to continue its partnership with the city.

“Our vision is simple: create a vibrant, inclusive space where everyone can play, laugh, and connect,” he said.
