A Sunday well spent – from the Bellarine to Docklands
THERE’S something about a day on the water that sets the tone for everything that follows. And this May, it’s the perfect way to start a Sunday in Melbourne.
On Sunday 17 May, the Docklands Waterfront Farmers’ Market returns, bringing seafood, local produce and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere back to Harbour Esplanade, Docklands.
For Bellarine locals, it’s an easy day trip with Port Phillip Ferries.
Depart Portarlington at 9am and arrive in Docklands at 10.10am, just as the market begins.
With the market set right beside the ferry terminal, you’ll be stepping straight off the boat and into the heart of the action.
From there, the morning is yours to wander. Expect lobster rolls, seafood dumplings, local cheese, fresh baked goods and seasonal Victorian produce – all sourced directly from the people who grow, catch and make it.
It’s a chance to slow down, enjoy the family-friendly activities provided, including a free kids fishing clinic, meet the makers and enjoy the waterfront at its best.

The market runs until 3pm, but your day doesn’t have to end there. With the return ferry to Portarlington not departing until 6.30pm, there’s plenty of time to explore more of what Docklands has to offer.
Sports fans can catch the action at Marvel Stadium, where St Kilda takes on Richmond at 3.15pm.
Prefer something a little different? Head to O’Brien Icehouse at The District Docklands for an afternoon ice hockey match between Melbourne Ice and the Sydney Ice Dogs. Or take things at your own pace with a visit to Body Worlds Exhibition, open throughout the day.
However you choose to spend the afternoon, the return journey offers a chance to unwind, departing Docklands at 6.30pm and arriving back in Portarlington at 7.40pm, just as the day slows down.
It’s a simple plan. Step aboard, cross the bay, and enjoy a full day out from fresh market finds to world-class events, all without the hassle of driving.
