THE biggest event of the year for the Geelong Golf Club is getting even bigger with a record cash pot up for grabs.

The MMD Geelong 9-Hole Pro Am on Sunday, March 10 will feature a full 176-player field featuring a mix of professional, amateur, and social players all competing for a share $15,000 on the day – the largest amount to date for the club.

“The club has always tagged the Pro Am as the showcase event since its inception a few years ago, but this year we’ve found ourselves in a wonderful position thanks to our sponsors,” Geelong Golf Club venue manager, Paul Christie said.

“It’s exciting for the club and it’s golf here in Geelong that we can continue growing the Pro Am so it be bigger and better every year.”

Already confirmed for the Pro Am are Tour-level players Jack Murdoch, Steven Jones, Josh Younger, and Cameron John leading the field across Geelong Golf Club’s nine-hole course.

Mr Christie confirmed spectators are welcome to attend and view some of the region’s best golfing talents for free, with no admission fee attached to entry.

“Geelong Golf Club prides itself on fostering a vibrant golfing community, committed to excellence and showcasing the talents of professional and amateur golfers and we therefore invite the whole community to be a part of this magnificent event where skill and precision will be on full display,” Mr Christie added.

“We’re very grateful to the support of players who are on the Tour and competing in our event next month, they want to support the grassroots golf clubs and golfers.

“We have a relaxed atmosphere here after the tournament, so much so you’ll see players hang around afterwards for a beer and a slider. That’s also an attractive prospect for the professional golfers on the day as well.”

The event is jointly held by the Geelong Golf Club, major sponsor MMD Property & Maintenance Solutions, and PGA Australia.

The Pro Am will begin promptly at 7.30am on the day with a one-tee start.

Tour players will conduct stroke play to tally their scores while non-Tour players will play Stableford rules.
