School holiday swims: students offered free water safety lessons
FREE water safety lessons will help children build confidence and competency around water these school holidays.
In line with National Drowning Prevention Day on 25 July, Webstar’s Swim School will run sessions for children aged 5 and over to improve water awareness, confidence and safety skills.
The program aims to encourage families to continue swimming through the winter to help maintain and develop skills to support a lifetime of safety around water.
City of Greater Geelong deputy mayor Eddy Kontelj encouragd families to maintain water safety practices year-round.
“Water safety starts long before summer arrives. These free sessions give families the chance to build confidence in the water, learn important safety skills and stay active during winter,” Cr Kontelj said.
Health portfolio chair councillor Rowan Story said the school holidays are the perfect time for children to have fun and build their confidence in the water.
“Swimming lessons are an important investment. They help families make safe decisions around water and develop skills that could one day save a life,” he said.
Active Webstar’s Swim School members can also enjoy free access to water slides at Norlane ARC, Splashdown and Leisurelink throughout the school holidays.
School holiday sessions will run from 29 June to 3 July and 6 July to 10 July. Places are limited and bookings are required.
