NOT everybody is able to celebrate Christmas with loved ones or other people, but thanks to a not-for-profit in South Geelong, those alone this Saturday have the option to be with others.

The Power In You project located on 44 Little Fyans Street, South Geelong, aims to inspire and empower people affected by alcohol and other drugs, all in the hope of producing long-lasting change in the lives they help.

However, with the holiday season upon us, The Power In You project’s annual Big Christmas Breakfast is returning again this year, providing an excellent opportunity for social interaction on a day of celebration.

When The Power In You Project first began back in 2017, founder of the project Kane power started to notice an abundance of his participants start to withdraw, which he then became “rattled” after seeing the reaction some people were having at the end of the year.

“I eventually realised that Christmas can be a lonely time for people,” Mr Power said.

“It can also be a sad time for people who don’t have access to their kids or any kind of community, so within about three weeks in the first year we were able to get together a plan for our first Christmas breakfast and it has just grown since then.”

Mr Power said that an estimated 30 to 50 people are expected to arrive for this year’s breakfast and its main objective is just to create some Christmas cheer.

It is also a day of the year Mr Power looks forward to.

He has his family come down on the day to help set up and run the event and he mentioned visitors are more than welcome to bring family members of their own as well.

“There’s going to be things like coffee and bacon and eggs on offer, as well as some care packages and stuff for people to take home with them, this event is really for anyone out there who is just struggling a bit and doesn’t want to be alone on Christmas day,” Mr Power said.

“The main reason why I do it is to help people feel connected on Christmas morning, but all the other stuff that comes along with it is just a bonus.”

The Power In You project’s Big Christmas Breakfast is set to run from 8am to 12.30pm on December 25.

There will also be kid-specific activities for the juniors to take part in such as goodie bags, face painting, family hampers and of course Christmas cheer for everyone to get a taste of.
