GEELONG’S fourth Big Freeze will head to Anthony Costa Oval in Geelong in 2025, with a goal to raise $100,000 for motor neurone disease (MND) research.

The annual event will take place on June 1 in the lead up to the St Mary’s vs St Joseph’s Geelong Football Netball League clash.

The Big Freeze replicates the MCG Big Freeze, which sees personalities slide into icy water and raise funds to support Fight MND.

Organiser Graeme Reid said organisers were hopeful of getting more than 8,000 people to the ground on the day.

“We’ve got a target of getting to $100,000 this year. Hopefully we can get there.

“The benefit of being lucky enough to have it at St Mary’s means we can create a lot more interest around the facility and ensure a really large crowd.

“St Mary’s and St Joseph’s is a blockbuster in itself, and we feel very fortunate to have that platform for the event.”

The first confirmed slider is St Mary’s life member, community leader and former City of Greater Geelong mayor Peter Murrihy.

More sliders are set to be released in the coming weeks and in the lead up to the event.

Since its inception, the Big Freeze Geelong has raised more than $250,000 for Fight MND.
