THE next wave of community leaders has been unveiled following the completion of a council-run program.

City of Greater Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan joined the 17 graduates of the 2023 Community Leadership Program at Wurriki Nyal on Wednesday, November 8, to celebrate the cohort’s achievement.

“The past nine months have provided a terrific opportunity to learn from qualified and recognised community and industry experts,” Mayor Sullivan said.

“I congratulate all 17 aspiring and emerging leaders who invested in the program, and I trust the experience was helpful in strengthening their leadership skills.”

The participants completed a nine-month interactive experience designed to equip them with personal and professional growth opportunities.

The program is part of the City’s commitment to developing skilled and passionate leaders among local communities.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken said the program provided an excellent opportunity to bring together participants from across the region.

“I’m sure it was a valuable learning experience, and my hope is that all participants will have takeaways that assist in managing future relationships, increasing community engagement and building capacity in the workplace and in their local communities,” Deputy Mayor Aitken said.

“Many among our 17 participants were already making a difference in our community and my hope is that the skills acquired will ultimately benefit residents right across our region.”
