The Liberal Party has finally named its candidate for Geelong ahead of November’s state election, preselecting Piano Bar owner Andy Pobjoy to contest the seat.

Pobjoy will challenge Labor MP Christine Couzens, who retained Geelong with 46 per cent of first-preference votes at the 2022 election.

Pobjoy confirmed to this masthead on Tuesday morning that he would stand for the Liberals.

With fewer than 150 days until Victorians go to the polls, Pobjoy is the first Liberal candidate to be announced for any of the Geelong region’s Labor-held lower house seats.

The Liberals currently hold 28 seats in Victoria’s lower house and need to win 17 more to secure a majority government and deny Labor a fourth consecutive term.

More to come.
