THE City of Greater Geelong has temporarily closed two outdoor exercise equipment areas for upgrades.

The Barwon Valley Fun Park and the Rippleside Outdoor Fitness Station will undergo an equipment renewal following community consultation feedback.

On April 15 temporary fencing was set up around the two parks to allow old exercise equipment to be removed.

“Barwon Valley Fun Park and Rippleside Outdoor Fitness Station are two regularly visited and highly valued play and exercise spaces,” Mayor Trent Sullivan said.

“The community consultation process provided us with an opportunity to evaluate the community’s requests and we thank those that participated and shared their thoughts on the proposed plans.”

In response to the feedback gathered from community engagement the renewal will aim to enhance community spaces.

As part of the upgrades the fitness equipment will be renewed while the rubber surface will remain.

Deputy Mayor Anothony Aitken said they aim to provide easily accessible stations with quality equipment, while meeting high safety standards and emphasised the important of community involvement.

“The renewal of these fitness stations is a crucial step in meeting the recreational and fitness needs of families in the community,” he said.

It’s expected that the works will be completed by the middle of May, with the City of Greater Geelong thanking the community for their patience and understanding during the upgrades.
