NOT even the heroics of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour could knock the Avalon Australian International Airshow off the top perch at the Victorian Tourism Awards.
The global aviation festival topped the multimillion-dollar grossing tour in the Hallmark Events category of the statewide awards, presented last week in Melbourne.
The annual awards night showcases the leaders in the Victorian tourism industry and covered 28 business categories and three individual categories.
Organised by the AMDA Foundation, the six-day Avalon Airshow festival draws more than 200,000 attendees annually and has become a must-see world class event.
The show attracts a diverse audience from local families to international delegations who travel specifically to experience its mix of military and civilian flying displays.
AMDA Foundation chief executive officer Justin Giddings said the foundation was rapt to bring back the gold to Geelong.
“The Avalon Australian International Airshow is not only one of Australia’s largest events, but a truly iconic experience that attracts visitors from across the country and around the world,” he said.
“Avalon is where lifelong aviation enthusiasts, families, and anyone who loves an awe-inspiring spectacle come together.
“With exhilarating flying displays, interactive experiences, and the chance to get up close with aircraft, it’s an event that offers something for everyone.”

Port Phillip Ferries came home with the gold in the Major Tour and Transport Operator category for a second year in a row.
Operating daily scenic ferries from the Bellarine and Geelong to Docklands in Melbourne, the passenger vessel carries up to 120,000 passengers annually.
Marketing manager Brad Wright said the organisation was thrilled with last week’s win.
“It’s a real reflection of the dedication of our whole team, from our onboard crew and masters to our engineers, customer support and office staff,” Mr Wright said.
“Everything we do centres on giving our passengers the best experience possible across to the Bellarine Peninsula and Geelong, and this award is a wonderful acknowledgement of that. We’re grateful to our loyal passengers and industry partners for their ongoing support, and we’re excited to carry this momentum into 2026.”
Several other local businesses earned medals for their tourism excellence, including GMHBA Stadium – Higher Mark, City of Greater Geelong and Liberty Balloon Flights.
