GEELONG will host the Genetics Australia (GA) 2024 Today, Tomorrow and Beyond conference this month.

The conference will feature new research and ideas that are set to shape the future of cattle breeding in Australia.

It will be the first in-person industry-wide conference to be held after previously being cancelled in 2020 due to COVID.

GA CEO, Anthony Shelly said the conference aims to inspire farmers to use genetics and other technologies to advance their operations and offers a glimpse into the future.

“We wanted a platform to bring together people in the dairy and beef industries to learn how new research and ideas can improve their business, and help create more sustainable and profitable farming systems,” he said.

“Farming is evolving at a fast pace and keeping up to date with new and emerging technologies is essential for achieving the best outcomes.”

The two-day program will cover a wide range of topics including beef industry insights and strategies, reduced emission feeding strategies, how IVF can be used for herd development and much more.

The conference will feature local and international speakers, farmers and industry leaders.

Farmer panels on robotic milking, making measurable differences, and sustainable farming practices will also be included.

Michelle Axford, DataGene project specialist and PHD Candidate at LaTrobe University, will present findings from Australian research into breeding healthier cows.

It’s intended that moving forward the conference will be held biennially.

The 2024 event will run from March 18 to March 19 at GMHBA Stadium.
