UPGRADES to the Rosyln Road/Thornhill Road intersection in Highton will improve traffic flow and make the area safer for road users.

Construction of a new roundabout is now underway as well as the installation of pedestrian crossings to allow for more connected pedestrian access.

With its proximity to Highton Primary School, the improvements are expected to encourage more students to walk to school, minimising traffic during peak pick up and drop off times.

City of Greater Geelong deputy mayor and Barrabool Hills Ward councillor Ron Nelson highlighted the community benefits.

“These essential upgrades will help reduce the risk of crashes and improve traffic flow through Highton, which is a great outcome for the community,” he said.

“Improving our roads is important to keep people safe and connected, so we really appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation while we get this work done.”

Works will be carried out until early May.

To allow the works to be completed safely and efficiently, the intersection will be temporarily closed until early April.

Detours will be in place, supported by traffic management and signage.

“It may take a little longer to detour around the intersection during construction, so we encourage everyone to allow a bit of extra travel time,” Cr Nelson said.
