GEELONG residents have until Sunday to recommend their community’s most dedicated volunteers for the Viva Energy Community Legends Awards.

The prizes honour local heroes from a range of Geelong community groups, such as sports clubs, arts groups, support organisations and cultural associations who give their time, expertise and passion to help others.

Viva has a prize pool of $75,000 on offer for winners, in categories such as community legend of the year, rising star award and people’s choice.

Awards ambassador, Geelong AFL champion Cameron Ling, encouraged people to nominate their top volunteers.

“Community volunteers are unsung heroes and part of what makes Geelong such a great place to live,” Mr Ling said.

“The Viva Energy Community Legend Awards are an important platform to recognise the efforts of these selfless people.

“What we need is for people to step up and nominate volunteers they know are making a difference in the community – volunteers from their sports club or cultural organisation.”

Award nominations close Sunday, August 14, before people’s choice voting opens on August 29.
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in October at GMHBA Stadium.
