Limeburners Point upgrade approaches Stage One completion

A PARKING upgrade at Geelong’s largest boat ramp is closer to completion prior to the New Year.

State Government body Better Boating Victoria (BBV) announced before the New Year Stage One, the carpark section upgrade of Limeburners Point in East Geelong, was on the brink of completion, providing more parking spaces for fishers to access the popular boating and fishing location.

“We’re making sure boaters across the Geelong region can enjoy boosted facilities this summer holidays,” a BBV spokesperson said.

“Construction on parking upgrades at Geelong’s Limeburners Point boat ramp is nearing completion, with more than 50 new boat and trailer parks ready to be used over the Christmas period.”The upgraded car park will provide 56 extra formal parks big enough to host vehicles with or without boat trailers, by extending the overflow area to the south of the ramp.

Drapers Civil Contracting crews have also been on-site installing concrete footpaths and rain gardens.

The $2.5 million State Government-funded project was announced in April last year, in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong, with the project more than doubling the ramp’s current parking capacity.

“We are pleased to be working on this Victorian Government-funded project with Better Boating Victoria, and excited for the benefits it will bring for recreational boaters and fishing enthusiasts,” Council’s acting executive director City Infrastructure David Greaves said.

The project aims to improve accessibility by formalising existing overflow parking areas, improve traffic flow and install permeable pavers to manage stormwater runoff.

The project also ensures fish cleaning facilities are maintained and will see storage for the Geelong Outrigger Canoe Club moved closer to the water.

Stage Two of the project, which features constructing additional boat ramp lanes, pontoons, and a wave attenuator, is scheduled to take place in 2024-25.
