A NEW online tool designed to help people find live music across the Geelong region has been launched as part of a City of Greater Geelong pilot program.
The City has partnered with Live Music Locator to roll out the free service, which brings coming live music gigs together in one central location using an interactive map.
Live Music Locator allows users to search for gigs by genre, venue and timing, helping audiences more easily discover performances that suit their interests.
The pilot is intended to improve access to live music for local, national and international audiences, while also supporting artists and venues across the region.
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the intiative built on the City’s ongoing support for Geelong’s music scene.
“There is so much live music to discover in Greater Geelong, but until now, there was never one place for people to see all of the gigs,” he said.
“The City is proud to be supporting this pilot, and I hope the community will get onboard and support local artists and venues.”
Cr Eddy Kontelj, chair of the city’s arts and culture, hospitality and live entertainment portfolio, said the platform would help showcase the depth of musical talent in the region.
“Our city is home to some incredible live acts,” Cr Kontelj said.
“While we know of so many, there’s so many more waiting to be discovered, and this website will facilitate that while also encouraging people to get out and support venues and the local economy.”
