THE Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) in Lorne will close next week.

Earlier today (Thursday, November 6), TOMRA Cleanaway, which operates CDS Vic in western Victoria, announced the RVM outside the Foodworks Lorne supermarket would close on Wednesday, November 12 at the request of the landlord, but an alternative location in Lorne was being sought.

In a statement, TOMRA Cleanaway said it was committed to ensuring the Lorne community has access to a CDS Vic refund point, and was working closely with the Surf Coast Shire, Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority, and local businesses to identify a suitable alternative location.

Since the CDS Vic scheme began in 2023, Surf Coast Shire residents have returned more than 9.4 million drink containers.

“The Lorne community has been fantastic supporters of CDS Vic, and we want to thank everyone who has used this refund point over the past two years,” TOMRA Cleanaway Victorian general manager Tony Catania said.

“There are several convenient alternatives nearby where residents can continue to recycle their containers and collect their 10-cent refunds.”

There are five other RVMs in the Surf Coast Shire, including in Aireys Inlet, Anglesea and Winchelsea.

Anyone interested in hosting a CDS Vic refund point in the Surf Coast Shire can phone TOMRA Cleanaway Customer Service on 1800 237 842.
