Meteor showers light the night

The Geminids meteor shower captured from Anglesea by Craig Crosthwaite of SeeSea Images.

SURF Coast photographer Craig Crosthwaite spent several nights capturing images of the Geminids meteor shower that was visible over several nights last week.

The American Meteor Society describes the display as “the most dependable” of its kind as it occurs around the same time in December each year and is visible from around much of the world.

“You don’t actually see all the meteors at once”, Mr Crosthwaite said of the display.

“To get this one image I took 353 shots of the sky and one image for the foreground. It took about four hours to shoot.

“I have then blended the sky shots to join the meteor trails from separate shots to get the sky image then blended the sky back into the scene.”
