THERE’S a new place to picnic this month.
The City of Greater Geelong council is inviting people to join the inaugural Picnic by the Pool at Kardinia Aquatic Centre on February 21.
The special event has been designed for families and friends to cool off and unwind after a week of work and school.
While the event is free for Swim Sport & Leisure and Webstar’s Swim School members, you don’t have to be a member to attend.
Everyone is welcome to join the alcohol-free evening.
Local music maestro DJ Ali will set the tone with some twilight tunes.
There will also be fun activities for all ages to enjoy, including face painting, the inflatable Leisure Sub, a visit from Webstar the platypus mascot and more.
All pools and the waterslide will be open and patrolled by lifeguards.
The trial event follows successful family fun days and school holiday programs across the City’s leisure centres.
“We are always looking to find new ways to facilitate community health and wellbeing, as well as make the most of our community facilities – Picnic by the Pool does just that,” Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said.
“The beautiful grassed areas at Kardinia Aquatic Centre are perfect to throw down a picnic blanket, do some laps or just splash around and enjoy an evening of family fun.
“What a wonderful way to spend a summer’s night and kick off the weekend.”
Picnic by the Pool will be held at Kardinia Aquatic Centre on February 21 from 5-7pm.
Entry starts from $6 per person, $8 per adult. Free entry for members.
Glass and alcohol strictly prohibited. The event is subject to weather conditions and may be cancelled if inclement conditions are forecast.
