Record-breaking Paws for GAWS raises more than $38,000
Adding even more heart to this year's Paws for GAWS event was a special adoptable dogs parade, featuring dogs currently in GAWS’ care who are waiting for their forever homes.
The annual Paws for GAWS charity dog walk celebrated its biggest event yet, with 430 participants and their dogs coming together to support animals in need on 1 March.
The event attracted hundreds of dog lovers who enjoyed a fun, family-friendly day at Eastern
Gardens, including a relaxed 4km walk and event hub festivities, while raising vital funds for Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) and the work it does to care for and rehome vulnerable animals.

Thanks to the support from participants, sponsors, ambassadors and the wider community, the event raised more than $38,000 to help provide shelter, veterinary care, food and rehabilitation for animals in GAWS’ care waiting for their forever homes.
GAWS chief executive, Helen Cocks, said the strong turnout and generosity of the community made the event a huge success.
“This year’s Paws for GAWS was our biggest yet,” she said. “Seeing 430 people and their dogs come together to support animals in need was incredibly special and we’re so grateful for the community’s support.”

A highlight of the day was the much-loved pooch parade, with dogs being crowned for best trick, best dressed and waggiest tale.
