ONE of Geelong’s newest service clubs has racked up a major milestone, with the Rotaract Club of Djliang celebrating its first birthday.

Members gathered at St Lords in Newtown last weekend to mark the occasion.

Founded in November 2021, the Rotaract Club of Djliang was supported by the Rotary Club of Kardinia, the Otway Rotoract Club and Study Geelong to help it get up and running.

The club had its first board changeover in June of this year, with Lekha Krishna taking on the role of president.

Part of the wider Rotary global network of service clubs, Rotaract (which stands for Rotary in Action) is a global organisation that empowers students and young professionals to create positive and lasting change in themselves, their local community and around the world.

Open to young people aged between “18 to 30ish”, Rotaractors help those in need, learn through various professional development opportunities, and enjoy social activities.

The Rotaract Club of Djilang’s activities over the past year include joining the Rotary Club of Bayside Geelong in selling sunflower seeds for the benefit of Ukraine, volunteering at the gift wrapping station for Gateways Support Services, marshalling for the Surf Coast Century, hosting guest speakers at its meetings, and attending functions hosted by other Rotary clubs.

Ongoing events include Lids for Kids collections and fundraising to support Rotary International projects.

The Rotaract Club of Djilang meets every second Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm.
