AUSTRALIA’s leading Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) research funding charity, River’s Gift is encouraging schools, businesses and the community to Shine Blue to mark today’s Annual Giving Day.

Today, (November 7) will mark the 12th anniversary of the passing of River Waddell who passed away from SIDS at four-months-old.

Approximately 100 babies die from SIDS each year in Australia, with the cause(s) of many cases remaining unknown.

The River’s Gift campaign aims to shine a spotlight on SIDS and raise vital funds for the development of the SIDS biobank and genetic research.

To mark tomorrow’s annual giving day, children and adults are being encouraged to wear a “sky blue heart” hand tattoo.

River’s Gift co-founder and River’s father, Karl Waddell said wearing a heart tattoo was a small way of rallying behind the cause.

“We’d love for community to come together with us and Shine Blue on November 7th.

“For over 11 years, we’ve been searching for answers as to why our healthy and safely slept son lost his life.

“Genetic research could hold the key to the puzzle and save future lives.”

River’s mother, Alexandra Hamilton said River’s legacy continued to solider on in its mission to impact the lives of others.

“I don’t want any other mother to have to wake to this nightmare; this is River’s gift to the world.

“By community coming together with us on November 7th Shining Blue, it’ll make such a profound impact.”

Businesses can get involved as Shine Blue Stars by visiting the River’s Gift website and purchasing their very own Shine Blue Star.

Community are encouraged to purchase tattoos for $1 each, by visiting the River’s Gift website shop (minimum of 5 tattoos per order).
