THOUSANDS of people descended on central Geelong on Saturday afternoon and into the night to roam around and take in a broad palette of experience at a new arts event.

Akin to the White Night festivals run in previous years, the debut ROAM festival from the City of Greater Geelong transformed Geelong’s cultural precinct over six hours into a walkable day and night playground of art, theatre, light and sound.

Dome at ROAM dispayed a 360-degree showcase of images captured by the Geelong Camera Club with a soundscape by Vicki Hallett.

Venues included Geelong Arts Centre, Geelong Library and Heritage Centre, Little Malop Street, City Hall, Back to Back Theatre, Barwon Water Museum Of Modern (f)Art and the Hitchcock Memorial Bandstand in Johnstone Park.

Crowds enjoyed attractions such as Butterfly Kaleidoscope: A Creative Adventure by Georgie Rose Puppetry and Barwon Water, Lazarus Gordon’s golden Angel Abrabanel, the 10m immersive space Dome at ROAM, and the huge Falcon puppet, which lit up as the sun went down.
