AN IMPORTANT north-south road in Curlewis is now open, providing a much-needed link for local residents to the Curlewis growth area and
Clifton Springs.
The new stretch of road extends Tivoli Drive in Curlewis by 600 metres, creating a connection between Portarlington Road and Coriyule Road along the eastern boundary of the Curlewis Golf Club.
It means Tivoli Drive now offers an alternative to Jetty Road for vehicles travelling to and from the Curlewis growth area.
The works have also included installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Portarlington Road and Tivoli Drive, footpaths, and a signalised pedestrian crossing at the Bellarine Rail Trail.
While the road itself is now open, the rail trail signals and new street lighting are awaiting final power connection.
Temporary lighting and signage have been put in place to ensure safety until the power is connected.
The $3.67 million project forms part of a wider Jetty Road Infrastructure Plan, and has been fully funded by the City of Greater Geelong council with Developer Contribution Plan income.
“The extension of Tivoli Drive improves access and safety for both motorists and pedestrians,” Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said.
“It will give vehicles travelling to and from the Curlewis growth area a more direct route to Portarlington Road, helping to reduce the volume of traffic on existing local roads.”
