AFL BARWON has announced the venues for this year’s Geelong Football Netball League and Bellarine Football Netball League finals series, with the latter’s decider to be held at a non-league venue for the first time.

After what AFL Barwon’s Commission described as a comprehensive selection process, Leopold Memorial Park has been confirmed as the venue for this year’s BFNL grand finals, the first time the league’s grand final matches will be held by a non-BFNL club.

The GFNL grand finals were announced earlier this year to be held at Kardinia Park.

Portarlington Recreation Reserve will remain as host for the first two weeks of the BFNL finals.

Geelong West Football Netball Club has also expanded its finals duties, increasing its GFNL hosting rights from the first two weeks of finals to three.

Earlier today (Tuesday, July 2), AFL Barwon stated the success of the 2023 GFNL finals at Leopold provided a “blueprint for an outstanding spectacle in 2024”.

“AFL Barwon is enthused by the on-court and on-field action that has transpired so far in 2024, and the Finals Series is shaping up to be exceptional, thanks to the generous and committed support of affiliated clubs, in hosting Geelong FNL, Bellarine FNL, Junior Male, Female Football Finals and All Abilities FNL Finals,” AFL Barwon regional general manager Edward Wilson said.

“These Finals promote local clubs and the communities in which they represent, and we encourage all members of the community to be part of these celebrations, in concluding the 2024 football and netball seasons.”

AFL Barwon stated it would make relevant announcements regarding finals venues for female football, junior football and junior netball in the coming weeks.

Ocean Grove will seek to defend its BNL crown at Memorial Park this year.
