FAMILIES with children eager to get into soccer in Geelong’s eastern suburbs are being urged to bring them along to a local Come and Try Day this Sunday, Januay 14.

Breakwater Eagles Sports Club committee member Kelli Lavelle sais the club’s Come and Try Day at Howard Glover Reserve will cater to junior female players of all ages, beginning at 10.30am.

“The club and I were just inspired with the FIFA Women’s World Cup last year and the performance the Matildas had put on during the tournament.

“It made me want to really get involved with Breakwater and hopefully we can start to develop a girls program as a result.

“The Come and Try session is open to all girls of every ability entailing nothing more than a friendly kickaround and a chance to meet the club’s junior coordinator to find out any additional information for season 2024.

“It’s also a chance for people to see the ground which we moved into last year.”

Breakwater Eagles is one of 19 clubs in Football Victoria’s Geelong region, but is the only club located in Geelong’s eastern suburbs.

Ms Lavelle hoped to see as many junior female players from the 3219 postcode as possible on Sunday.

“We hope people from that area come and see if football/soccer is something they might be interested in,” she said.

“I know other clubs such as Barwon Soccer Clubs have had a big influx of junior registrations recently, not necessarily of just girls, but I’m hopeful we can see something similar for our growing junior program.”
