TWENTY20 action hits the Geelong region this Sunday, December 10 when the Melbourne Renegades host the Perth Scorchers in a welcome sight for local cricket fans.

The Big Bash League (BBL) fixture will pit two of last season’s top sides against each other.

Colac-born cricketer and Geelong resident Aaron Finch is among the returning Renegades taking the field from 7.15pm, saying on SEN’s The Warm Up last week he is excited to be back at Kardinia Park playing the sport he loves.

“I love playing down here,” Finch said.

“It’s a great place to play cricket, I mean I love coming here to watch football, but to play here, the size of the ground is really good, both sides of the field are really short, but it shows you don’t need tiny grounds to have entertaining cricket.

“The Western District loves the sport and supports the sport, we’re always well supported here and being from the area, I think people appreciate the game coming here as well.”

The Renegades begin season 13 of the BBL tonight (Friday, December 8) at the SCG against the Sydney Sixers, before heading to Geelong to host the Scorchers 48 hours later for the home opener – the club’s only game at GMHBA Stadium this season.

The Renegades have played nine BBL matches at GMHBA Stadium since January 2018.

Finch said his team had recruited well throughout the year and will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

“It’ll be exciting, hopefully going a couple better than last year.

“Overall, there was a bit of improvement finishing third after finishing dead last the previous three seasons.

“We’ve got a lot of good, young kids, and a few great internationals as well.
