Geelong to launch IRONMAN Pro Series
LOCAL IRONMAN fans have cause for celebration following this morning’s (Thursday, September 19) announcement that IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong will feature as the opening round of next year’s IRONMAN Pro Series for the first time.
Scheduled for March 23, IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong will welcome the best triathletes from around the world to kick off the second IRONMAN Pro Series.
Following a successful inaugural 2024 season, which was broadcasted to a global audience of more than five million people, the IRONMAN Pro Series will be contested over 18 events and 17 race locations.
“It’s a great honour to have IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong open the 2025 IRONMAN Pro Series calendar and we can’t wait to welcome some of the top professional triathletes in the world to the region next March,” The IRONMAN Group Oceania regional director Carl Smith said.
“This event has always been a firm favourite for triathletes from across the region and the addition of the IRONMAN Pro Series in 2025 will take it to the next level.”
IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong is one of seven new races added to the Pro Series calendar after previously featuring on the Oceania circuit.
Kiwi Sam Osborne and Queenslander Ellie Salthouse were crowned IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong champions in 2024.
Before Osborne’s win, he had never been on an IRONMAN 70.3 podium before, finishing the Geelong course in 3.41:25.
This year’s Geelong win was the second time for Salthouse, who crossed the line in 4.07:18 ahead of the event’s two previous winners, Melbourne’s Grace Thek and Dutch athlete Lotte Wilms.
“What better way to celebrate the 15th anniversary of IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong than to showcase the event to the world through the IRONMAN Pro Series?” Smith said.
“IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong is set to be just one of two events in the region on the IRONMAN Pro Series calendar, joining June’s Cairns Airport IRONMAN Cairns, and we look forward to having some of the world’s best kick off their 2025 season in Geelong.”
